Marinus de Jong worked for more than 20 years at the Aviation Directorate of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. He has set up an ATM policy unit and reinforced the civil-military cooperation on the policy for airspace use. He chaired the Board of UAC-Maastricht.
In 2006 he was elected as a member of the ICAO Air Navigation Commission for a period of 3 years. In 2009 the Dutch Ministry seconded him to the Single European Sky Unit of the European Commission. (Regulation for Network Management/ATM-security).
He was the EC-focal point for the coordination of ATM-cooperation between the EC and ICAO, EASA, EUROCONTROL, SESAR Joint Undertaking and the European States.
In 2015 he worked at ICAO as project-manager for improving the performance policy for the Global Air Navigation Plan.
In 2016 he was tasked by the minister as project-manager for the implementation of policy recommendations resulting from the tragedy with MH17. He initiated at national and international level the cooperation between States and organisations like ICAO, EASA and the European Commission on avoiding ‘flying over’ or ‘near conflict zones’.
Since 2019 he is working as a consultant. He is elected as a member of the EUROCONTROL Performance Review Commission. Marinus is the vice-chair and focal point for safety.
